Manuel Muñoz Solera

I'm currently leading a fantastic team of software designers at GitHub, where we're committed to building exceptional products and striving to become the home for all developers.

I've had the opportunity to work on complex design challenges and have developed a strong belief in the power of curiosity as a driving force.

GitHub

Senior Director of Product Design ∙ 2019 – Now

I joined GitHub to lead the Product Design team when the company wanted to grow as a platform to cover the entire software development lifecycle.

In my position I need to nurture a continous partnership with many of the Product, Engineering, and Design leaders in the company; I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from them (and, of course, for all the fun that comes with it!).

I consider my time at GitHub one of the most prolific periods of my career (so far!). Here's a glimpse of some of the projects and remarkable value that, alognside with my team, have delivered to developers:

Azure DevOps

Director of Design ∙ 2018 – 2019

I led a team of designers and researchers at Microsoft, focused on the Azure DevOps suite of products. This suite includes Azure Boards, Azure Repos, Azure Pipelines, Azure Test Plans, and Azure Artifacts. Additionally, our team was responsible for designing AppCenter, a mobile CI/CD platform, and supporting 1ES, which manages Microsoft's internal developer tools.

The most interesting work of the team centered on modernizing DevOps. We redefined the visual language, covering aspects from branding and illustration to the most traditional Product Design flows and building blocks. DevOps was hardcore Enterprise software, but we worked hard to make Azure Pipelines more approachable for OSS developers. Many of these principles were later applied in the design of GitHub Actions.

Yammer

Principal Designer ∙ 2013 – 2018

Yammer aimed to provide a platform for employees to connect, share information, and work together more effectively. It was designed to be a central hub for companies and to facilitate open communication within the organization. Initially, it was marketed as a social network for enterprises, but it eventually had to find its place within Microsoft's Office ecosystem.

Tuenti

Head of Design ∙ 2010 – 2013

Tuenti was one of the largest social networks in Spain, with 14 million users. As Facebook grew in popularity and was recently translated into Spanish, Tuenti started to lose its edge; in response, the company pivoted to become a virtual mobile network operator focusing on a younger demographic.

That provided a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a company within a company from the ground up. After successfully proving the concept in Spain, Tuenti expanded its mobile services to six different countries.
